Interview in Onda Cero Valencia with Dr. Natalia Julve, coordinator of the Neonatal and Pediatric ICU and specialist of the Neuropediatrics unit in the hospital  IMED Valencia, where she talks about Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit services, reference in the Valencian Community, and able to assist complicated pregnancies and new born of any gestation age and weight.

The Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is formed by a team of pediatric nurses, pediatric and newborn specialised auxiliaries, neonatal pediatricians and pediatric intensivists, that are also complemented with the rest of services of the hospital, as ophthalmology service, X-Ray, laboratory, etc, building a multidisciplinary unit.

It is a unit able to treat difficult cases immediately, as Oliver’s case, a premature baby of only 27 weeks gestation and 650 grams weight. After 4 months on the Neonatal ICU of the hospital, he was discharged last month in October with good health state.

The unit has 3 pediatric boxes, one of them isolated, 9 neonatal ICU incubators, 10 non critical pathological neonates incubators, considered level III, that can cover severe surgical complications of the prematurity, and provided with last technological advances, with hemofiltration equipment, active therapeutical hypothermia for the management of moderated or severe encephalopathy, transcutaneous brain oxymetry equipment, that provide information about brain and systemic oxygenation-perfusion, equipment for continuous monitoring of brain function through integrated electroencephalography by extent.

The human team that integrates the unit is formed by experienced and highly qualified professionals, that provide lots of safety in care and health of newborn. Super specialised professionals in pediatric cardiology, neumology and pediatric allergology, neonatology, pediatric endocrinology, able to offer full attention and multidisciplinary follow-up with utmost professionalism.

The PNICU is open doors 24 hours 7 days a week that allows parents to have continuous contact with their baby during all time is admitted in the unit.
